There are three types of ratings measure cable performance in different environments. General Purpose tested, followed by Riser tested, and Plenum tested. Although these cable types may seem similar, they are not always interchangeable.
Plenum-tested cable can substitute for Riser or General-Purpose cable
Riser-tested cable can be used in place of General Purpose but not Plenum
General Purpose cable cannot be used in place of Riser or Plenum cable
